A new rumor from Latino Review suggests Arnold Schwarzenegger may be reteaming with his Terminator, T2 and True Lies collaborator, James Cameron, and star as the villain in Cameron’s return to Pandora, Avatar 2.
The site says Schwarzenegger would play “a bad guy human general”, which sounds like he’s merely filling the shoes Stephen Lang wore in Avatar. Considering there aren’t any story details on the sequel out there or even a timeline outside of an expectation the first of a planned trio of sequels will arrive some time in December 2016.
As of now, Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno (Salinger) are working on the screenplays for the three films with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver all expected to return.
Scwarzenegger is also set to return for Paramount’s Terminator 5 for director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) and even The Legend of Conan. At least the potential Avatar 2 role would suggest he has some worth outside of reprising characters he just can’t get away from.
