It’s clear this isn’t going to be the most impressive weekend when looking at the box office as a whole, but the games must go on and it seems the reader predictions didn’t deviate too far from Laremy’s. The readers are, however, a little more bullish when it comes to Morgan Spurlock‘s One Direction: This is Us, predicting the film to finish $1 million higher than Laremy had it at with an aggregate prediction of $16 million.
Beyond One Direction it’s a bit of a crap shoot. Readers went only $100,000 higher on the dismal Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez thriller Getaway with an average prediction of $4.9 million.
Then we come to two films that could both very easily fall outside the top ten.
First is Wong Kar Wai‘s Grandmaster, which Laremy did a solid job predicting the theater count as it has added 742 theaters and it appears Laremy has a little more confidence in it than the readers who predict a $2.4 million weekend, but it’s tough to say how well this will do.
Finally, we have Closed Circuit, which I never had a chance to see, but someone I trust told me it was a “C at best”. That wasn’t convincing me to give it a shot and it isn’t as if Focus is giving audiences a huge opportunity to see it, opening it in 870 theaters this weekend. As for the predictions, both Laremy and the readers agree on the prediction of $2 million. One thing’s for certain, a top ten finish is unlikely.
