I just posted this on the RopeofSilicon Tumblr page, but figured it’s late and why not just put it on the main site.
I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s release of the official press and industry screening schedule for the 2013 Toronto Film Festival and in the process took a look at the series of emails I’ve received so far and right now this is how my first day at the festival is looking in terms of screenings
Thursday, September 5th
- The Fifth Estate – 11:30-1:30 (Bell Lightbox 1)
- Blue is the Warmest Color – 3:00-6:00 (Scotiabank 1)
- Blue Ruin – 9:30-11:00 PM (Scotiabank 1)
The only film not listed that I want to see but it conflicts with Blue is the Warmest Color is Kill Your Darlings which plays at 5:30 PM (Scotiabank 2).
The one film you may not recognize is Blue Ruin, a revenge thriller Radius-TWC picked up and one that won the FIPRESCI Prize in the parallel section “Directors’ Fortnight” in Cannes. I missed it at Cannes, but if I can fit it into the Toronto schedule I definitely will. You can get a little more information on it right here.
In all honesty, I hope this is how my first day looks because being able to get Blue is the Warmest Color out of the way on the very first day without any major conflicts would be a big victory, but there are a lot of films that could get in the way.
The Fifth Estate is the festival opener so you can go ahead and chalk that one up, I’ll be there. The rest, we’ll have to wait and see.
The full schedule is supposed to be available tomorrow (Aug. 21) at some point, after which I will be able to give you much more specific details on what I will be seeing and when. For now, these may be the first three reviews you’ll be reading from me this year.
