Say My Name!

Vince over at Film Drunk just wrote a post about how many times The name “Steve” is said in this weekend’s new film JOBS, a film I had the pleasure of skipping (it was either that or Kick-Ass 2) and based on all I’ve heard I made the right decision. Vince counted 73 total times the name was said, which immediately made me think of Titanic and how many times the name Jack and Rose are said in that film.

Lo and behold, Vince posted a supercut of how many times those two names are said in Titanic and also included this quote from Albert Brooks on the Adam Carolla podcast that I’d never read before:

“There are things I can’t stand in movies, that can be so easily fixed. I don’t like peoples’ names… I’m gonna talk to you for an hour, and I’m never gonna say ‘Adam.’ You can say ‘Adam’ if you’re gonna leave and I’m calling you, or you can say it if your pissed — ‘Listen, Adam, don’t f*ck with me.’ But just to say it all the time… it’s sloppy writing. I’ll tell you a fun game when you have nothing to do: watch Titanic and count how many times he says ‘Rose.’ It must be five thousand. […] I think he even says it underwater.”

I feel I’ve been saying this for a long time, but it just goes to show, you’re never the first one to notice anything.

If you’re wondering, Jobs was written by first time screenwriter Matt Whiteley while, Titanic, of course, was written by James Cameron. However, Cameron has an excuse, does Whiteley?
