I would normally stay clear of this kind of “news story” but for whatever reason I’ve found myself growing incredibly curious about the upcoming, J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII, which Jedi News (via Bleeding Cool) is now reporting will begin production in August under the production alias Foodles. This is no surprise as many productions use aliases even in the Star Wars realm such as Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, which was produced under the title Blue Harvest.
Foodles happen to be Disney-related snack packs for children shaped as Mickey Mouse ears and filled with items such as apples, cheese and pretzels so I guess this makes sense.
Expectation is for much of the shoot to take place at Pinewood Studios as Disney has slotted studio time over the next ten years.
In addition to this, there is some good news regarding the use of CGI in the upcoming film as producer Kathleen Kennedy said at the the, “The conversation we’re having all the time now about Episode VII is how much CGI… We’re looking at what the early Star Wars films did; they used real locations with special effects. So [for Episode VII] we’re going to find some very cool locations, we’re going to end up using every single tool in the toolbox.”
She also added, “I was amazed yesterday and looking at what the fans are doing, using model makers, using real droids, taking advantage of the artwork that you can touch and feel, we want to do that in combination with CG effects.”
Yes, touch and feel, let’s add a little authenticity back into Star Wars can we? I am just praying Michael Arndt‘s screenplay is up to snuff because it would be amazing to see Star Wars return to some level of greatness and once again push the envelope when it comes to blockbuster cinema.
