Warner Bros. latest attempt at a Superman film is upon us with Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel and the film took in $21 million on Thursday alone, which included $12 million from special Walmart screenings and another $9 million from Thursday night, midnight screenings.
Man of Steel is in more than 4,200 theaters as of today and Warner Bros. is low-balling their weekend estimate, expecting something around $80 million, while a number over $100 million for the three-day is much more likely.
Numbers from overseas have not yet started trickling in outside of the $794,742 earned in Taiwan on Wednesday and $1,657,532 from the Philippines. The number of international screens the film is expected to play on at the height of its run is more than 21,000 with UK, Korea and Mexico getting the film this weekend while territories such as China, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Spain will see the release of Man of Steel next week.
I’m curious to see how the film plays to audiences and will be posting a “What Did You Think?” in a couple days to gauge your thoughts, though you can always add your comments to my review right here.
