Leonardo DiCaprio Eyes Rasputin Role

Back in The Wolf of Wall Street back-to-back-to-back. We mourned the prospect of a DiCaprio-less 2014 and even with today’s news it still seems like we won’t have a new film starring the baby-faced 38-year-old, but it looks like that “long, long break” might just be a short sabbatical.

Today it’s being reported Warner Bros. has picked up screenwriter Jason Hall‘s pitch for a story based on the Russian mystic Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin who became advisor to the Russian Imperial family the Romanovs and was known for not only his powers but his sexual relations with his followers.

Personally, I don’t like the sound of this as I feel like I can already see the end result in my head. The idea of a controversial figure steeped in politics, religion and sexual activity doesn’t scream “studio picture” to me as they always seem to be too glossy and too showy.

Of course, without a director attached and with the script yet to be written the likelihood of this actually being made is probably less than 50/50. Then again, Hall is on fire at the moment as his script for American Sniper has already landed Steven Spielberg as director with Bradley Cooper set to star not to mention his adaptation of David Finkel’s forthcoming “Thank You For Your Service” has also attracted Spielberg’s attention and may serve as a reunion between the director and his Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis.
