‘All is Lost’, ‘Insidious 2’, ‘Red 2’, ‘Curse of Chucky’ and More in Today’s MPAA Ratings Bulletin

You’ve got to love the MPAA, take a 90-minute film with only about six moments where any words are actually said on screen and give the film a PG-13 rating. Why? For brief strong language of course. The film is J.C. Chandor‘s All is Lost, which I saw and loved at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (read my “A+” review here) and the moment the rating refers to comes about midway through the film and it is one single, solitary word. Based on the rating I’m pretty sure you can guess what that word is.

Of course, I guess you could argue a PG-13 doesn’t really matter in this case, but that’s hardly the point. The point is this arbitrary ratings system where the PG-13 for All is Lost is really not different than the PG-13 for films like The Dark Knight or, in the case of this bulletin, James Wan‘s Insidious: Chapter 2. After all, beyond posts like this, how many people are even looking at the rating reasons?

Also in today’s bulletin is an R-rating for the Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington film 2 Guns, a rating for the Paul Patton rom-com Baggage Claim and a rating for this week’s limited release of Violet & Daisy starring Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel.

Additionally we have ratings for Summit’s geriatric actioner Red 2 and Tim Story‘s January 2014 action-comedy Ride Along starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.

Oh, and yes, Curse of Chucky is what you think it is, a direct-to-video sequel to 2004’s Seed of Chucky and it does feature Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky, but unfortunately, no Jennifer Tilly.

Yup, it’s a packed one today and the complete bulletin is listed directly below.
