Sicario 3 Update Given by Josh Brolin

Josh Brolin gave quite a mixed update on the status of the highly anticipated third Sicario movie. In an interview with The Playlist, Brolin — who plays CIA officer Matt Graver in the first two installments of the action thriller franchise — says the still-gestating Sicario 3 is getting “closer,” yet Christopher McQuarrie is no longer involved, while Taylor Sheridan’s involvement remains unclear.

“We are—we’re closer. Yes. Molly Smith, who is a really good friend, who is one of the producers of that on Black Label—I said something. I said, ‘It’s never gonna happen!’ and it kind of went everywhere. And she was very reactive, which I appreciated. I appreciate reaction. They’re very much focused on wanting it to happen, but we won’t let it happen until there’s a story interesting enough to want to spend that kind of money on it,” said the actor.

He added, “Chris [McQuarrie] was involved for a while, but he’s not now. And I don’t know about [Taylor] Sheridan. I know him really well, but I don’t know if he’s onboard or not.”

Both Sheridan and McQuarrie’s involvement in the threequel was announced last year.

What is Sicario about?

Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune), the first film — released in 2015 — follows an FBI agent taking part “in an undercover operation targeting a Mexican drug lord.” The second film, titled Sicario: Day of the Soldado, was released in 2018. It was directed by Stefano Sollima.

Sicario starred Emily Blunt in the lead role as Kate Macer, with Benicio del Toro as Alejandro Gillick, Daniel Kaluuya as Reggie Wayne, Victor Garber as Dave Jennings, Jon Bernthal as Ted, Jeffrey Donovan as Steve Forsing, and Raoul Trujillo as Rafael.

Blunt didn’t return for the second outing, but both del Toro and Brolin returned to reprise their roles for the sequel. They were joined by Isabela Moner, Catherine Keener, and Shea Whigham.
