Stephen Gaghan‘s Candy Store is filling out nicely as Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds) joins Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Omar Sy (The Intouchables, X-Men: Days of Future Past) in the upcoming action thriller.
Lionsgate is handling distribution on this one which interweaves several storylines set against a dynamic criminal underworld in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. A former covert operative (Clarke) discovers the organization he was dedicated to fighting is now operating in his new backyard. When he teams up with a disgraced local cop (De Niro), their investigation leads them to an international sex trade entrepreneur (Sy), a Cold War consigliere posing as a typical American suburbanite (Waltz), and a beautiful girl wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan.
Gaghan will direct and produce from a script he co-wrote with Shannon Burke and additional casting is still to be announced.
Gaghan previously wrote Traffic and last wrote and directed Syriana, which won George Clooney an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
