I hadn’t heard of this, or if I had I forgot, but TV Guide has premiered the above first look picture from “Toy Story of Terror“, an upcoming 30-minute long Halloween special featuring the Toy Story gang.
Apparently the story centers on the gang as the toy’s new owner Bonnie takes the toys with her and the family on vacation when their car breaks down and they’re forced to stay in a spooky motel. It appears Jesse (voiced by Joan Cusack) is at the center of the story with Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and Trixie (Kristen Schaal) also along for the ride.
There’s also a new toy in the mix voiced by Carl Weathers named Combat Carl (naturally).
Angus MacLane, who’s been doing work with Pixar since Geri’s Game in 1997 and up through working as an animator on Toy Story 3, directs.
The TV Guide report suggests there will be references to Predator thanks to the inclusion of Weathers, as well as Aliens and Psycho, and I’d be surprised if The Shining doesn’t get a little love as well.
Personally I’m excited for this. While the Prep & Landing Christmas cartoons weren’t Pixar, I loved seeing the return of more family-focused Christmas stories and to see Disney/Pixar doing the same for Halloween is a welcomed addition to the holidays.
“Toy Story of Terror” will air on ABC Family and I have to assume, if interest is high enough the chance for a Toy Story 4 will never be out of the question.
