First Official Picture from the Set of ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

20th Century Fox released the above first official picture from the set of the now-filming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, featuring Jason Clarke staring up at Andy Serkis in his mo-cap suit, which will soon be turned into millions of pixels as he becomes Caesar.

The story of the sequel is that it is set 15 years after the events of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and will focus on a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar (Serkis), threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Along with Clarke and Serkis, the cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, Toby Kebbell and Enrique Murciano.

Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) is directing for a May 23, 2014 release.
