‘Oblivion’ Gets a PG-13 and ‘Rush’ Goes R in Today’s MPAA Ratings Bulletin

Today’s batch of MPAA ratings are a little more lively than last week, beginning with an R-rating for Pedro Almodovar’s high-flying, 30,000 feet in the air comedy I’m So Excited and Oblivion starring Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko and Morgan Freeman comes away with a PG-13.

The most interesting to me is Ron Howard‘s Rush, the Formula 1 racing true story starring Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) as two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed–handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. I guess I expected a PG-13 studio film, but perhaps their going for something a little more edgy? Is that too much to surmise from a rating alone?

Of course, it isn’t as if Howard doesn’t direct R-rated movies, but I don’t really look back at the language in Frost/Nixon and think much of it and while The Missing was rated R for violence, I can’t tell you what violence. In fact, all-in, this may be the strongest rating a Ron Howard movie has ever received.

Below is the complete batch of latest MPAA ratings from Bulletin #2264.
