Watch the Elevator Murder Viral Video Used to Promote ‘Dead Man Down’

Below is the red band trailer for tomorrow’s new film Dead Man Down, which I will finally be seeing tonight, but despite the fact FilmDistrict, for the most part, has kept the film from critics, buzz surrounding it is certainly keeping the Internet busy. Of course, there was co-star Terrence Howard talking about working with Oprah Winfrey on Lee Daniels‘ upcoming film The Butler and how much he enjoyed her “tig ol’ bitties” (that video is at the bottom of this post), but along with that is the first video I’ve included below, which may cause you to question its motives.

The video features two actors in an elevator, one is killing the other via strangulation and it was recorded to capture the reactions of innocent people who come along and open the door only to find themselves witnessing a murder. Michael Krivicka, co-founder of Thinkmodo and director of the video, told Metro World News all but one of the reactions are authentic, the only one that was portrayed by an actor is the man with his dogs who ends up filming the murder on his phone. This portion of the video actually mimics a scene in Dead Man Down, thus the relation.

While I watched I couldn’t help but wonder how they managed to stop some people from calling the police or how the people reacted once they found out it was fake. Sure, it calls into question what we would do as a society to protect one of our own from being killed, but at the same time, what if the person who opened the elevator had a gun of their own?

I don’t know, just food for thought. What do you think?

Dead Man Down is an action thriller that stars Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace as two strangers whose mutual desire for revenge draws them together and triggers an escalating trail of mayhem. The film, which also stars Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard and Dominic Cooper, marks the American theatrical debut of director Niels Arden Oplev (the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).
