I will be posting my review of The Dictator tomorrow, but one of the scenes that convinced me it would be funnier than I originally expected was a snippet of this newly released four-minute clip from the film featuring Sacha Baron Cohen as the titular character, Admiral General Aladeen, as he and his nuclear expert Nadal (Jason Mantzoukas) go on a helicopter tour over New York City to scout out a hotel they need to infiltrate to return Aladeen back to power.
That said, and with my review forthcoming, I will say this clip is an excellent example of how the film plays. Funny, but inside of contained snippets. It is essentially a large series of clips/skits of which you don’t need to see the entire film to enjoy at any one time. Paramount could release 21 of these four minute clips from the 83-minute film and you would get the same amount of laughs as you would seeing the entire film, it just wouldn’t be all at once. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but to call it a full-fledged narrative is a stretch.
The Dictator hits theaters this Wednesday, May 16. You can watch the clip in HD at Apple if you are feeling the urge.
