Cameron Diaz has reportedly signed on to fill the role previously eyed in Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor, joining previously cast Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem. The film is an original screenplay written by Cormac McCarthy in which Fassbender will play a present-day Southwest lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe into the drug business without getting sucked down. Diaz will play a character named Malkina described as a hyper-sexualized Argentinean woman who’s hooked up with Bardem’s character. Angelina Jolie was lobbying hard for the part, but rumor has it her commitment to Maleficent may have prevented her involvement. [source]

Clark Gregg worked his way into geek hearts everywhere with his turn in Marvel’s The Avengers franchise and now he’s signed on to join Jason Reitman‘s Labor Day alongside Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, James Van Der Beek, Gattlin Griffith, Brighid Fleming, Tom Lipinski and Maika Monroe. The film is based on the Joyce Maynard novel in which Kate Winslet will play a single mother of an awkward and isolated young son who takes in a stranger (Brolin) who turns out to be an escaped convict and ends up teaching the boy life lessons, while she falls in love with him over the course of Labor Day Weekend. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive — and the world safe for democracy. Since Kick-Ass hit theaters in 2010, the original creator of the comic Mark Miller has been adamant that Kick-Ass 2 would see the light of day and it seems he was right. Kick-Ass 2 is preparing to head into production with Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) directing and discussions getting underway with original castmembers Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Word is original helmer Matthew Vaughn can’t direct due to his commitments to the X-Men: First Class sequel, but he is backing it and supporting it. The film is expected to move from Lionsgate to Universal for distribution. [source]
