Are you supposed to save the best for last or just hope no one notices when the director tweets out the final character poster for what looks like a second-rate sequel to a poorly received first film? Either way, that’s what we’re looking at as director Jon M. Chu tweeted out this final G.I. Joe: Retaliation (6/29) character poster featuring DJ Cotrona as Flint.
Based on the little bit I’ve seen of this film so far it looks like Paramount only agreed to make it if the budget could be severely cut back. I haven’t seen any numbers on what was spent on the pic, but I can pretty much guarantee you it wasn’t the $175 million that was reported to have been spent on the first film, but I’m not necessarily complaining.
While this poster is a little “meh”, I don’t see any problem with stripping the franchise of the go-go-gadget suits and underwater fortresses. Guns, explosions and men on a mission work for me, let’s just hope there’s at least some semblance of a plot and we should be good to go.
