When I was writing up Battleship merely for the perceived similarities between it and Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (this clip especially), but I held off. So, with this first clip from the film showing up online have a look and tell me, can Battleship do Transformers-like numbers?
I expect it will do well all over the world, but domestically, can this top $300 million? With a reported budget of $200+ million I know Universal is hoping so, but hopes don’t always lead to truths and can often result in merely dreams.
Battleship is directed by Peter Berg (Hancock) and stars Taylor Kitsch, Tom Arnold, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Hamish Linklater, Brooklyn Decker, Liam Neeson, Josh Pence and Jesse Plemons and will hit theaters on May 18. For more on the film including a batch of pictures and posters click here.
