Friday Box-Office: ’21 Jump Street’ Scores #1 while Will Ferrell’s ‘Casa de Mi Padre’ Surprises

Sony is a group of happy campers right now as the $45 million-budgeted 21 Jump Street scored $13.1 million on Friday (including $700,000 from midnight screenings) and will likely end somewhere around $34 million for the weekend. This will mark the second Channing Tatum feature to hit #1 at the 2012 box-office after The Vow and you can pretty much believe he’ll make it three with G.I. Joe: Retaliation on June 29.

In second is last week’s #1 feature, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax with $6.7 million and a likely $25 million weekend followed by the continued disappointment of John Carter with a meager $4 million on Friday and an expected $13 million weekend, down 57% or so from last weekend’s $30.1 million opening.

Looking over Friday’s top ten, surprises include the complete absence of last week’s new horror film Silent House, which made $6.6 million last weekend, but only managed $726,000 yesterday, and the inclusion of Will Ferrell‘s new Spanish-language comedy Casa de Mi Padre, which managed $760,000 from only 382 theaters.

I’ve included the Friday top ten directly below and will be back on Sunday morning with a complete wrap-up.
