What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #136

This week was filled with several half-watches along with my continued efforts to catch up on “The Game of Thrones” as I got one more episode under my belt, but let’s get to the movies…

The Apartment (1960)

Late one night I capped off the night watching about an hour of this excellent romantic comedy which makes for a prime example of how movies used to get romantic comedies right. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and give it a watch… the Blu-ray is a good place to start. Here’s a link if you need further direction.

Immortals (2011)

Talk about a film that looks spectacular on Blu-ray. Then again, even fans of this film, such as myself, will be the first to admit this is more of a visual exercise than anything else and upon watching it a second time that becomes even more clear. I still enjoy this film and am happy to own it, but after seeing it once the story does get even weaker the second time around.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

I have a feature article on this one coming in the next couple days, hopefully tomorrow in fact, but this was my third time seeing this film and I’m not convinced we need to see a sequel, though Fincher does seem to have a strong understanding of Lisbeth and has found a solid companion in screenwriter Steve Zaillian. As much as the next two films are unnecessary, I’m curious to see how they turn out.

So what did you watch this weekend? How many of you caught John Carter? Any thoughts you’d like to share?
