Tom Cruise Set for Doug Liman’s ‘All You Need is Kill’

Maybe I blanked for a bit, but I don’t remember ever hearing of Tom Cruise circling a film called All You Need is Kill for The Bourne Identity helmer Doug Liman, but that appears to be just the case as Deadline reports Liman will direct the film for Warner Bros. based on a script first written by Dante Harper with a re-write coming now from Joby Harold who last penned the ridiculous 2007 thriller Awake.

All You Need is Kill is an adaptation of the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka with a futuristic alien invasion storyline that centers on a raw recruit (Cruise), pressed into battle against an alien species, gets killed in action. But he is reborn each day to suffer the same fate. Eventually, he notices that he is becoming a better warrior and that other circumstances are changing, which might be the key to altering the outcome.

The film will mark the fourth upcoming feature for Cruise now that he’s completed filming on the Adam Shankman-directed musical Rock of Ages, is currently filming the Lee Child adaptation One Shot with Christopher McQuarrie and will soon begin filming Horizons for TRON: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinsky. Oh, and he has Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol releasing on December 16.

Cruise is expected to begin work on All You Need is Kill after completing Horizons for Universal.
