Looking at this new poster (via iTunes) for Walt Disney’s John Carter, I can’t help but be distracted by the Disney logo and the color scheme, which immediately turns the whole thing into some weird sci-fi Lion King amalgamation. It just doesn’t really work for me.
They appear to be going with a less is more approach and I’m still excited to see the film, hoping it’s as unique as that first trailer made it look, but the current poster marketing (check out the first poster here) just isn’t doing it for me.
John Carter is based on the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs and follows former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
Check out the poster below and look for a new trailer later this week.
