While J.J. Abrams and his team work on the script for Star Trek 2, not wanting to rush the project and simply make the best film they can rather than make a film based on a release date, Sony is saying to hell with that and has already established a 2014 release date for the sequel to a film that has yet to hit theaters.
Deadline reports Columbia Pictures will release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 2, 2014, just under two years after the July 3, 2012 release of The Amazing Spider-Man.
The first film in the newly rebooted franchise is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield in the web-slinging title role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He’s joined by Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors (aka The Lizard), Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Ben and May Parker, Denis Leary as George Stacy and Irrfan Khan as Nels Van Adder. The first trailer for the film arrived only a couple of weeks ago, you can watch it directly below.
