TIFF 2011 First Look: New Pics from George Clooney’s ‘The Ides of March’ Starring Ryan Gosling

The trailer for George Clooney’s The Ides of March debuted only a few days ago (watch it to the right) and the response in the comments on my post were overwhelmingly positive. The film will be opening the Venice Film Festival at the end of August and after that moves to Toronto where I will hopefully have avoided all early buzz from Venice and go in with little-to-no idea what to expect, though I must admit it has quickly become one of my most anticipated films playing in Toronto.

With a screenplay by Clooney re-teaming with his Good Night, and Good Luck. co-writer, Grant Heslov, the two have adapted Beau Willimon’s play “Farragut North” into a political thriller that takes place during the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, when an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s (Clooney) shot at the presidency. The film co-stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright, Max Minghella and Evan Rachel Wood.

Following its Venice and Toronto debuts it will hit theaters on October 7. I have five new images included in the slideshow above and a higher-res look at the extraordinary poster directly below.

The 2011 Toronto International Film Festival plays from September 8-18. For my complete coverage click here.
