Will ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Have Batcopters Designed Like the Tumbler?

More rumors surrounding The Dark Knight Rises for you as London based boom operator Frederick Z. Roche posted a message (via io9) on Twitter recently that read:

‘The Dark Knight Rises’: Inside Info, they are Building 2 Attack Helicopters in the same design as the Bat Mobile from The Dark Knight! BOOM

I honestly have no idea what such an invention would even look like, but the one thing I always liked about Christopher Nolan’s Batmobile, known as The Tumbler, was that it was a functional car (as was the Batpod motorcycle), which seems like a cheaper idea than building two actual helicopters to mimic the design. Then again, we’re talking about a franchise in which the last installment is one of the highest grossing films of all-time. So why wouldn’t Warner Bros. put a little extra coin into the third film?

Pictured above is the Boeing Sikorsky RAH 66 Comanche Reconnaissance Attack Helicopter, which I used just because it looked like something they might use, and because I just couldn’t lead off with a pic of the Batcopter from the 1960’s “Batman” television show since I have a pretty good feeling Nolan’s version will look a little different than the image that follows.

The Dark Knight Rises is the third Batman film in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and will hit theaters on July 20, 2012. The cast includes Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Nestor Carbonell, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Marion Cotillard and Liam Neeson.
