Three More Dwarfs, Talk of ‘Captain America 2’ and Steinfeld has Her Romeo

This morning we have more dwarfs, a new villain, a new Romeo, talk of Captain America 2 and an ensemble to upset all the men that will be dragged out to see it. Let’s dig in…

London born actor Douglas Booth (“The Pillars Of Earth”) has been cast as Romeo opposite Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) in the upcoming Julian Fellowes scripted adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Booth (pictured) joins a cast that also includes Holly Hunter as The Nurse, Ed Westwick (Children of Men) as Tybalt and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) as Benvolio. Directed by Carlo Carlei, production is scheduled to begin this summer in Italy. [Variety]

Captain America: The First Avenger co-writer Stephen McFeely was recently cornered and asked about a potential sequel to which he replied:

“Well, our hope is that there is room [to return to W.W. II in Captain America 2] and we’re negotiating how to do that now. The story will likely be in the present day. We’re experimenting with flashback elements for more period World War II stuff. I can’t say much more than that but we made [the first Captain America movie] baggy enough to refer to more stories in the past.”

Of course, we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves as Captain America: The First Avenger has yet to hit theaters and will arrive on July 22. [Screen Junkies]

Yesterday we learned Ian McShane would play the lead dwarf, Caesar, in first time director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman and now we’ve learned he will be joined by Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones as fellow dwarfs in the production with Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky) and Stephen Graham in negotiations to play warriors in the film.

As was obvious with the name of Caesar for McShane’s character, we are talking about a revisionist Snow White tale in which Kristen Stewart will play the title character who escapes her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth). Jones will play the timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard will be Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf. The film is set for a June 1, 2012 release. [Heat Vision]

A new rumor has Jason Momoa, who plays Khal Drogo in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and the title character in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian, playing the lead villain in the film formerly known as Headshot starring Sylvester Stallone. The film is based on the graphic novel “Bullet to the Head,” written by Matz and illustrated by Colin Wilson, it tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners. Sung Kang (Fast Five) and Sarah Shahi (“Fairly Legal”) co-star and Walter Hill (Last Man Standing) directs. [Latino Review]

Word is Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Isla Fisher and Ed Helms are all in negotiations to star in a film based on the global bestseller by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel, What To Expect When You’re Expecting. The story is along the lines of recent ensemble features He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day and follows six couples of varying ages and backgrounds in the run-up to delivery of their babies. We have another one of these monstrosities on the way soon enough in the form of New Year’s Eve set for a December 9 release. [Vulture]
