Bill Nighy Joins the ‘Total Recall’ Remake and Biel is Confirmed

Director Len Wiseman has cast yet another one of his Underworld actors in his upcoming remake of Total Recall based on the short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. First it was his wife, Kate Beckinsale, and now it’s Bill Nighy reports Heat Vision.

Nighy joins previously cast Colin Farrell who is playing the same role Arnold Schwarzenegger played back in the original 1990 adaptation, though this remake will apparently ditch the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.

As for Nighy, he will play Quatto, the leader of the resistance. Beckinsale plays the role of Lori (the role played by Sharon Stone in the previous pic) and so I have to assume the now confirmed Jessica Biel will be playing the role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin), a role that previously had names such as Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson mentioned as in serious contention.

Bryan Cranston is already aboard as the film’s villain and Ethan Hawke is also confirmed for an undisclosed cameo appearance.

Shooting begins in June in Toronto for a August 3, 2012 release from Columbia Pictures.
