UPDATED: Trailer for ‘One Day’ Starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess

UPDATE: I had to remove the previous version, but I am told this is now the “official” version.

Back when I posted a first look at Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in One Day, Lone Scherfig’s adaptation of David Nicholls’ novel the biggest question on the minds of those that have read the novel seemed to be what accent Hathaway would be using in the film which centers on Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Sturgess), two people who meet on the night of their college graduation – July 15th, 1988. For the next two decades, every July 15th reveals to us how “Em” and “Dex” are faring, as their friendship ebbs and flows with the passing of the years.

Comments from a couple of readers went something like this:

“I have read in The Guardian that her take on Em is slightly different to the book and I hope that doesn’t mean she that won’t be Northern. Her Northernness and Dex’s bourgeois/yuppie/southerness is part of what makes their connection unique.” ~ A-K87

“Will Hathaway be donning a Yorkshire accent or will they whitewash the story and reinvent the character as a well-to-do Londoner? It’s an important question because the North/ South divide is a big thing in our country, and also in the novel.” ~ Irf

Now, considering I’m an ignorant American when it comes to the difference between the accents I will have to leave it up to you to tell me if she got it right. The trailer has debuted and I have featured it directly below. Focus will release One Day on August 19.
