What’s the Current Temperature on Kat Dennings?

The upcoming feature Daydream Nation which stars Kat Dennings, Josh Lucas and Reece Thompson, centers on a girl (Dennings) who’s moved with her recently widowed father to a small town where she gets involved in a love triangle with her teacher (Lucas) and another student (Thompson). I already have a problem with the idea of the now 25-year-old Dennings playing a high school student, but that aside my ears perked up when Jeff Wells wrote of Dennings asking, “So Kat Dennings is a dryer, more deadpan, slightly more opaque version of Emma Stone?”

Wells goes on to mention Dennings has a supporting role in the upcoming Thor, which is a role the trailers make me think she is going to get slaughtered for if because she seems to only be there to supply one-liners, which could get annoying if her character adds nothing else. I hope that’s not the case.

I’ve never thought to compare Dennings to anyone really. I don’t see the Emma Stone comparison at all, but instead see Dennings as a unique actress that typically brings a certain level of intelligent wit to her characters. Had Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist been any better I think she may have already taken off, but I also imagine she’ll be an actress that’s around for a long, long time and perhaps secure a longevity the likes of say, Allison Janney? A comparison I think works.

Have a look at the Daydream Nation trailer below. It’s a film that’s been sitting on the shelf for about a year now, but Anchor Bay is opening it on a limited basis on May 6 and DVD and Blu-ray on May 17. You can get more at the official site.
