So that’s my ten, but I can’t go without mentioning a few others I considered.
First off, I would have included Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest because the crop duster scene is an obvious choice. Unfortunately, there wasn’t an embeddable clip available online and I wanted each entry to come with some kind of visual representation of what I was talking about. There is a high quality clip of the crop duster scene right here if you’re interested.
I also considered both Blade Runner and The Matrix and while both of them have clips available on YouTube, Warner Bros. has disabled embedding on all of them. For Blade Runner the opening titles would be great in 3D and with The Matrix I would have included the subway fight or the final fight.
As for the films with clips I could have included, but they simply just didn’t make the list, here’s the breakdown with clips.
And that’s it… I’m spent. Now it’s your turn and if you’re like me, and not necessarily a fan of 3D, try to open your mind and imagine a perfect world, embrace the hypothetical. After all, this is more about appreciating your favorite aspects of some of your favorite films more than it is about a filmmaking technique. So have fun and provide some YouTube links where you can.
