‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Female Shortlist Includes Knightley, Biel, Hathaway and More

Yesterday the big buzz was the shortlist delivered by Heat Vision‘s Borys Kit for the major female roles in The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The group includes big names like Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel and is rounded out by Kate Mara (127 Hours, Shooter) and British newcomer Charlotte Riley. Riley is, interestingly enough, the fiancee of Tom Hardy, who has already signed on for a still unknown villain role in the film (though The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) is also slated to audition, but her involvement in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is expected to result in scheduling issues.

They’re looking to fill two roles — one villain and one love interest. Sources say one of them will be Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, Liam Neeson’s character from Batman Begins. She has to be the villain, right? Then again, having her as the love interest would be a nice way of bringing the story full-circle.

As for my personal opinion, there really isn’t much to say at this point. I’d just prefer they avoid using Anne Hathaway as the love interest because she has a bit too much of that whole beautiful brunette thing going on, perhaps too closely resembling the Rachel Dawes character played by Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the previous two installments, respectively. Seems like that could be confusing for some.

As for the movie itself, they’re looking to get things started in May with shooting to take place in London and Los Angeles for a July 20, 2012 release.
