Arterton and Garfield Up for Michael Mann’s ‘Capa’

According to a recent profile interview in Total Film, Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) will be joining Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) in Michael Mann’s Waiting for Robert Capa. This is the first we’ve heard of any kind of casting for the film, but Arterton seems quite convinced telling the film mag, “I’m aiming for even more diversity. Capa [biopic about the combat photographer Robert Capa] is confirmed, so I should be working with your hottest actor, Andy Garfield!”

Fair Game co-writer Jez Butterworth was adapting Susana Fortes’s Spanish language novel “Waiting for Robert Capa,” for Mann centering on the famous war photographer with intention of the film being turned into a gritty, low budget film.

The story begins in Paris in 1935, where Capa (Garfield), a refugee from Fascist Hungary, met Gerda Taro (Arterton), a refugee from Nazi Germany, both with the intention to become photographers. The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War one year later began Capa’s emergence as the most renowned war photographer ever, and established Taro as the first frontline female battle photographer.

As far as timing goes, there’s no telling when exactly this will shoot. Garfield is currently shooting the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot and Arterton has Wrath of the Titans around the corner along with a few other potential projects. Should things come together I expect this could shoot as early as next summer, but Mann does have a few other projects in the fires.

As far as Capa’s work, here are a few images I featured in my first article on the film, beginning with his most famous.
