‘Paranormal Activity 3’ Set for October 2011

Don’t be too surprised when you hear this, but Bloody Disgusting has received confirmation Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Paranormal Activity 3 with an October 21, 2011 release date already planned.

Obviously no one is surprised at this news. Even in my box-office wrap-up this weekend I wrote, “Paranormal Activity 2 has now made $82 million on a $3 million budget and I didn’t hear a lot of negativity from moviegoers for this one, which tells me most people were satisfied. This is why I’m surprised we haven’t heard word of a Paranormal Activity 3 yet.” Yeah, the only surprise was that we hadn’t heard of it yet.

Of course, no additional details are available outside of the fact the first film’s director, Oren Peli, will again be involved from a producing standpoint. I have a hard time believing Paranormal Activity 2 helmer, Tod Williams, will be back for the third one as I’d expect Paramount to want to switch things up from film-to-film in an effort to try and add some kind of freshness to the night vision-heavy, supernatural franchise.

Personally I loved Paranormal Activity (my review), but Paranormal Activity 2 (my review) just didn’t do it for me. However, unlike my zero interest in the Saw franchise, this is a franchise I look forward to seeing more of.

I guess the question now is where do they go from here? Feel free to talk spoilers in the comments, but just give people a little warning if you do.
