UPDATE: Get even more pics here.
I have been rather critical of Captain America: The First Avenger from pretty much the outset. I just don’t see it as a viable franchise as much as a goofy looking one and the hiring of Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) to helm it didn’t raise expectations in the slightest. Neither did the concept art or the goofy set pics. And now, well, I think Entertainment Weekly‘s exclusive cover shot of the patriotic hero seals the deal.
Just below is your first look at Chris Evans in full Captain America garb and I just don’t see it working, the same as I don’t see Thor working, both of which are the reason I feel Paramount handed off Iron Man 3 and The Avengers to Disney as I see both of these projects as highly risky films that could potentially serve as the demise for future film prospects. That’s obviously just me speculating here, but that’s what this job is all about.
Captain America: The First Avenger is set to hit theaters on July 22, 2011. have a look at the EW cover below and leave your thoughts in the comments. Am I overreacting or am I right to have concerns?
