What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #54

This week I’m a little light. Other than powering through Criterion’s Eclipse release “The First Films of Akira Kurosawa” due this Tuesday I caught only one other film at home. Here’s the details… share your movie-watching experiences in the comments below.

The Breakfast Club (1985)
QUICK THOUGHTS: The Breakfast Club hits Blu-ray this coming Tuesday and I popped it in for a watch a couple of days ago and this is likely to be a film that will simply never die. It’s a classic. Perhaps a classic of a bygone era, and it’s by no means perfect in every sense of the word, but I feel safe in calling this a classic nonetheless. The video here looks about as good as you’re going to get, but the supplements are nothing more than exactly what’s been available on previous DVD releases. However, it’s a solid bunch with a commentary featuring Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall, a 51-minute documentary on the film and an “Origins of the Brat Pack” featurette that runs a little over five minutes, but is quite interesting. I wouldn’t say you need to run out and buy this, but kids that grew up in the ’80s should all certainly have this film in their collection in one format or another. Everyone else, give it a chance and I bet most of you will agree.

Now it’s your turn. What did you catch in theaters or at home this past week?
