First Look at Gemma Arterton in Frears’s Cannes Entry ‘Tamara Drewe’

Sony Pictures Classics has chosen Facebook of all places to debut the first image of Gemma Arterton as the title character in Tamara Drewe, the Stephen Frears directed romantic comedy that will debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May and is one of my Preliminary Oscar Contenders.

Arterton stars as Tamara, a sexy flirt who returns to her small country village and stirs up dark passions among the locals. Moira Buffini penned the screenplay, based on Posy Simmonds’ acclaimed graphic novel. Buffini also penned the now-filming adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre for director Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre).

The film co-stars Dominic Cooper, Roger Allam, Luke Evans, Bill Camp and Tamsin Greig. There is no release date as of yet.
