#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
Valentine’s Day looks poised to get my streak back on track, but at what cost? The film isn’t great, by any stretch, though it does feature half of Hollywood in the movie. So that’s something. If we’re not going to get good scripts or stories in February, we can at least see people we’ve heard of.
Estimate: $33.1 million
2. The Wolfman
It should open exactly like the 1941 version.
No, only kidding. Couldn’t resist. In truth I’m putting it at $7500 per screen, akin to an Underworld opening.
Estimate: $24.2 million
3. Dear John
I want to predict a massive fall-off for this film but the romantic holiday weekend just won’t let me. A 44 percent drop is all I can do, though I do it with a scowl.
Estimate: $17.1 million
Most of the calls on this title are around $5m higher. I just don’t see it. The books are popular but I can’t go over $5k per screen after the disaster of The Seeker.
Estimate: $16.8 million
5. Avatar
The champ is cut! The champ is down! It’s losing theaters this weekend and seems to be progressing into some sort of normal mathematical slide. Shame. It was a solid two months though, eh?
Estimate: $13.3 million
Anyone else out there have The Olympics hurting box office? I don’t see it, but I’m open to suggestions.
Estimate: $4.2 million
Technically, Valentine’s Day should help the overall take. The recent trend suggests a 20 percent jump from last weekend.
Estimate: $3.6 million
Around $420m behind Gladiator for #1 all-time on the “Revenge” charts.
Estimate: $2.65 million
9. Crazy Heart
It’s pretty much a dead heat for eighth place. I want Crazy Heart to win, but I’m not betting on it.
Estimate: $2.63 million
10. When in Rome
Speaking of, did you notice my correct Saints Super Bowl prediction? That’s versatility!
Estimate: $2.2 million
How say you? Am I about $40m light on the three-day weekend? Will Percy Jackson teach me a lesson? And will I get back on track with my #1 call? All those topics and more await your comment.
