2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Live Winners and Commentary

5:58:11 PM: Not sure why they think this is necessary, but Howard is still talking.

5:58:53 PM: Howard offers a kudos to George for his “Hope for Haiti” telethon. Did anyone happen to see how much money they made with that?

6:00:22 PM: CNN says Hope for Haiti generated $58 million and counting.

6:00:53 PM: Sandra Bullock is presenting Betty White the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rose Nylund is being recognized. She just turned 88-years-old and we’ll be seen in You Again later this year.

6:03:23 PM: Uh, what is this half-assed mini doc they have put together for Betty White?

6:03:50 PM: I mean, this almost seems like a joke. All I hear is blah, blah, blah…

6:05:54 PM: This is terrible, and I’m not sure it will ever end.

6:07:22 PM: Wow, the tribute to Martin Scorsese at the Globes wasn’t this long and I’m not sure the two are comparable. I guess that’s up for debate… I guess.

6:09:37 PM: And it’s over… Whew! That was a journey and Bullock is taking her time inviting her up.

6:11:06 PM: All complaints aside, Betty White is great. It would have been a great callback, and make for a much needed lighter moment, had she groped Sandra Bullock a la The Proposal.

6:13:54 PM: Betty White jokes about “having a couple” of the famous faces in the audience… Camera shoots to Morgan Freeman… Coincidence?

6:14:59 PM: Ha, if I can read lips properly I think Betty just asked Sandra, “Do we have to go now?” and then chuckled. She definitely saved the moment with her charm after that lackluster presentation.

6:20:17 PM: Anna Kendrick and Stanley Tucci are here to award another TV show! Best Actress in a mini-series.

6:21:09 PM: Barrymore won at the Globes, will she repeat?

6:21:30 PM: And the winner is Drew Barrymore for “Grey Gardens”

6:22:14 PM: Okay, one more TV award to hand out and we can finally get to the movies. This is one long slog, bring on the Oscars.

6:22:36 PM: Oh, and congrats to Drew.

6:24:09 PM: The Hurt Locker boys (Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner and Brian Geraghty) announce the film as one of the contenders for Best Ensemble.

6:25:32 PM: Michelle Monaghan and Jon Hamm arrive for what is the final TV award, Best Actor in a TV Miniseries

6:26:39 PM: Kevin Bacon won for “Taking Chance” and I am going to assume he repeats here.

6:26:54 PM: And the winner is Kevin Bacon for “Taking Chance”

6:27:46 PM: And all that is left are movie awards, will there be a surprise here? There’s hardly been a surprise yet (or do you consider Tina Fey a surprise?).

6:29:28 PM: Sigourney Weaver is on hand to introduce the In Memoriam segment

6:32:20 PM: Soupy Sales! Forgot to add him to my Departed piece. I always seem to miss a few.

6:39:16 PM: Morgan Freeman walks on stage all on his own to present Best Supporting Actress…. Mo’Nique for the lock.

6:39:50 PM: And the winner is Mo’Nique for Precious

6:42:12 PM: No surprise here and I’m glad the negativity aimed at Mo’Nique is finally dying down. She deserves it and knocked it out of the park.

6:43:35 PM: Now this is a line-up: Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman are out to introduce Nine as a Best Ensemble contender. Too bad the film didn’t live up to the talent involved. Although Cruz and Cotillard were great.

6:44:54 PM: Nine gets the wordless montage Basterds got. Should have just kept the camera on Cotillard and Cruz for the duration.

6:45:22 PM: Commercial time as we have 15 minutes to go. Is everyone still backing Basterds for the ensemble win leaving me to support Precious on my own? Also, is it Streep or Bullock for the SAG win? A couple of things left to consider.

6:50:46 PM: Meryl Streep steps up to hand out the Actor for Best Actor

6:51:10 PM: Bridges seems to be the RopeofSilicon pick. Any chance for an upset?

6:51:32 PM: By the way, Colin Firth deserves this win, but I’m cool with Bridges taking it.

6:52:14 PM: And the winner is Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart

6:53:11 PM: As much as I would have loved to see Firth win this, it’s great to see Bridges up there.

6:54:24 PM: Bridges got the “Wrap It Up” signal, Streep yells from the side, “Don’t listen to ’em!” The Dude abides.

6:55:45 PM: Hard not to love The Dude. Warren Beatty is next to award Best Actress

6:56:13 PM: Bulllock? Streep? Mulligan?

6:56:35 PM: Can’t help but feel they are rushing things now.

6:57:14 PM: And the winner is Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side

6:57:54 PM: Sorry, but this just doesn’t make sense to me.

6:58:58 PM: Is Bullock now a lock for the Oscar?

7:00:09 PM: Fittingly (I guess) George Clooney announces Best Ensemble

7:00:31 PM: George Clooney hints that his time on “Golden Girls” afforded him a moment with Betty White. Solid.

7:00:59 PM: My pick was Precious. Yours was Basterds. Who will win?

7:01:17 PM: And the winner is Inglourious Basterds

7:01:46 PM: Kudos to RopeofSilicon readers for getting almost all of the winners correct. It seems Bullock jumped up and stung us all.

7:02:34 PM: Ha, Brad Pitt’s not on hand and Eli Roth is the first to begin the acceptance. Not sure he had much to do with the win.

7:03:26 PM: Eli Roth accepts the SAG Award for Best Ensemble and no one else says a word… Am I the only one seeing something wrong with this picture?

7:12:17 PM: And that does it for me ladies and gentleman. I will be updating the Oscar predictions next week and there will indeed be at least one change although I really don’t want to make it. See you then and thanks for reading!
