2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Live Winners and Commentary

And we’re back again less than a week after the Golden Globes brought us confirmation Avatar is not only a box-office juggernaut, but also a potential awards show king. However, tonight won’t be Avatar‘s night as it is not among the nominees at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which means any number of other films can see their stock rise as the actors weigh in with their opinion when it comes to the best of the year. I will be here all night long starting around 4:30 PM PST with up-to-the-minute commentary and winners just like I was for the Golden Globes (read that here) and will do for the Oscars in March. But tonight is about the SAGs so before we get to the commentary there are a few things to preview.

First off, on Wednesday I asked you to predict who would win at this year’s event and I held my personal predictions for the show until today, but it looks like we are pretty much of the same mind except for one award. Here’s how things shook out with the polling compared to my personal predictions for tonight.

YOUR PREDICTIONS MY PREDICTIONS
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
  • Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

  • Meryl Streep, Julie and Julia

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Mo’Nique, Precious

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

  • Inglourious Basterds
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Mo’Nique, Precious

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

  • Precious

Is it possible things can be this predictable? If you’re wondering why I went with Precious for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, it’s simply a matter of opinion, but it was not an easy pick considering the nomination of Diane Kruger is a pretty big sign Inglourious Basterds could take it home. However, along those same lines it would be just as easy to consider Up In the Air a likely winner seeing how George Clooney, Anna Kendrick and Vera Farmiga were all three nominated and pretty much make up that film’s complete ensemble… too bad it’s not nominated.

My prediction for runner-up is Inglourious Basterds, but you guys predicted The Hurt Locker, which means it looks like Best Ensemble will be the most interesting moment of the night barring an upset in one of the earlier categories.

Without any additional fluff, let’s get started. The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards begin at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), 7 p.m. (CT) and 6 p.m. (MT) and I will begin live-blogging around 4:30 PST with up-to-the-minute winners and commentary. Also, like the Globes, winners will also show up on my Twitter page as they are announced as well. The show will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center and if you’re not doing anything right now, Titanic is showing in HD on TNT right now.

I hope you enjoy, and just like the Globes I will add a page break at the top of each hour, but this show is only two hours long so it’s not as much of a haul as the Globes or the Oscars will be.

4:12:43 PM: One award I’m not sure will be handed out on air is that for Film and Television Stunt Ensemble, but a press release was just sent out announcing the stunt performers and coordinators from Star Trek and “24” as this year’s winners.

4:30:08 PM: And here we go sports fans, the red carpet show has started and I can’t wait for this 30 minutes to end.

4:30:37 PM: And I mean it when I say “sports fans” as unlike the Globes we don’t have to compete with the NFL playoffs today. Whew!

4:31:07 PM: By the way, if any of you are on Twitter and want to get the winners over there I will be adding winners on there as well, just follow me here.

4:32:02 PM: And the first celebrity is Kyra Sedgwick, not exactly bringing down the house, but it is a TNT show she’s there for so no big surprise.

4:33:02 PM: Now we move to Justin Timberlake, really sticking to the “actors” vibe here eh? I kid, I like Timberlake, but he’s hardly the first person you think of when you think about actors.

4:33:52 PM: Sedgwick to Timberlake to Meryl Streep… okay, upping the ante now.

4:34:36 PM: Streep has got to be tired of talking about Julie and Julia by now though.

4:35:03 PM: Speaking of Meryl, will she be upset by Sandra Bullock and if so doesn’t Bullock have to become the front-runner at the Oscars?

4:35:50 PM: Okay, whoever this guy is TNT has on the red carpet is a bit on the clueless side.

4:36:30 PM: Hmmm, Kate Hudson has a little backless number on… works for me.

4:39:31 PM: Commercial over, back to the show and the “Glee” cast is here, which makes sense because I don’t recognize any of them although the TNT interviewer tells me I should. Guess that’s what happens when you don’t watch “Glee.”

4:40:51 PM: Here’s a shot of Marion Cotillard on the red carpet.

4:41:50 PM: Okay, the TNT female announcer’s name is Thea. Got that figured out. She’s talking to Morgan Freeman…. Only 17 minutes left before the show starts.

4:42:43 PM: Peter is the guy’s name. He’s talking to Steve Carell. Peter sort of scares me.

4:44:15 PM: Here’s a shot of Drew Barrymore on the red carpet.

4:45:15 PM: Okay, the server is starting to get hit a bit hard, should it continue I may have to disable comments again. Just a warning, going to try to keep the server from crashing like it did for 26 minutes during the Globes.

4:47:36 PM: Peter’s talking to Betty White who will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award tonight.

4:48:18 PM: Peter just stumbled a bit, just asked Betty White, “What was it like doing Th… The… The… your last film?” It’s called The Proposal Peter, and guess what… she enjoyed doing it. However we learn Sandra Bullock will be presenting the award to Betty tonight.

4:50:12 PM: Gabourey Sidibe is on the interview podium… Will Precious prove me right and take the ensemble award or will the readers be right and Inglourious Basterds take it? I have a feeling those readers have me beat.

4:51:21 PM: Oh Lord, a “fashion” montage set to old school techno beats. Doo doo doo… beep beep.

4:52:27 PM: Fashion conversation now, really not my thing. TNT appears to be tempting me turn the channel to ESPN.

4:54:11 PM: Teaser: They will be talking to one of the biggest stars in the world and she was in Nine… gotta be Kidman right, but is she still a “big” star or just a “big” name?

4:57:13 PM: Three minutes left as we listen to Bullock talk about turning down The Blind Side and coming back to it again. Yup, haven’t heard this story yet.

4:59:07 PM: Okay, one minute to go so I’m dropping a page break… let’s move to page two.
