The Critics’ Choice Awards Name ‘Hurt Locker’ Best Picture

I don’t know about you, but something about the fact the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) offering up a tie at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards ruins the entire thing for me. This isn’t rocket science, when we are talking about the best, there cannot be more than one. Only one can be the best. This is why the Super Bowl doesn’t end in a tie. It’s why baseball games go extra innings and why golfers play a sudden death playoff. To look at the Best Actress category and see both Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock’s names pretty much tells me this is an organization not interested in making declarations as much as feeding the machine.

As a result, I look at the Best Picture and Best Director win for The Hurt Locker and think, Eh, okay. The complete list of winners can be found directly below and perhaps you’ll be surprised about a few things, but I would say the BFCA still has a little growing up to do if they want to be considered among the list of major post-season awards. Tomorrow night the Golden Globes are on and while they are prone to stroke the celebrity ego, their recognition as a major award show cannot be disputed. See you then with live-blogging and up-to-the-minute winners.
