Comic Con 2009: Summit’s ‘Twilight: New Moon’ Panel With Video

Summit Entertainment’s presentation was the second big presentation of the day and included looks at Sorority Row and Con-favorite The Twilight Saga: New Moon. However, to call it a “big” panel is a bit of an exaggeration considering Astro Boy and Sorority Row were treated as red-headed step-children and limited to having the casts introduce the trailers before the last 45 minutes of the hour on New Moon. Since it’s their cash cow you can hardly blame them, but it doesn’t say much for the rest of their slate.

First off, Freddie Highmore and Kristen Bell introduced the theatrical trailer for Astro Boy, which included some unfinished footage, and then they quickly rushed through the Sorority Row trailer which was introduced by the cast including Briana Evigan and Rumer Willis. The Astro Boy trailer looked like it might be decent, but definitely looked to be geared more towards children, and I am sorry to say, but Sorority Row just looks like a bad knock-off of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which itself is a knock-off so I have no idea how it’s going to attract any major kind of audience, but who knows?

I have featured the teaser trailer to Astro Boy below as well as the first theatrical trailer for Sorority Row, which is the same as what we saw.

Then came time for New Moon with director Chris Weitz on stage with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Ashley Greene. I recorded video footage from the panel, which I have included below, but I thought the most newsworthy part of it all was when Chris Weitz referenced his last film, The Golden Compass, and said it “ended up being quite a terrible experience.” He said his time with Summit was a “reguvinating process” and he finished saying, “I now remember how much fun it can be to make a film.” Pretty interesting stuff, I wonder what his version of The Golden Compass looked like as that became the beginning of the end for New Line.

However, back to New Moon, along with the panel footage I featured below, they also showed two scenes from the film. The first included Bella (Stewart) and Jacob (Lautner) as Jacob was teaching Bella how to ride a motorcycle as visions of Edward kept throwing her off. She ultimately rides off and ends up crashing causing her head to bleed, which in turn causes Jacob to take his shirt off an dab at her forehead. Suffice to say, the crowd went wild.

The second scene shown was from the end of the film as Bella and Alice race to find Edward at the clock tower in Italy before he steps into the sun for reasons I won’t go into any further detail here as to avoid spoilers.

The footage below is obviously two parts. The first part was shown prior to the first clip and the second part was immediately afterward, but it isn’t the complete panel because my hand was getting tired and you may even begin to see the camera start to shake toward the end. My fault… I almost lost all feeling in my right arm and I didn’t know what else to do.
