The RopeofSilicon “The Contenders” section — tracking the winding road through the awards season — will be going live on Monday, July 20 as we make our way to the 2010 Oscars. The section is pretty much completed and just needs a few words added here and there, but I think you are really going to like what I have put together and hopefully enjoy predicting our way toward March 7, 2010.
In the meantime, the New York Magazine’s Vulture blog has debuted the poster for Jane Campion’s Oscar contender Bright Star which is sure to be competing in all the major categories with Abbie Cornish’s performance as Fanny Brawne and Ben Whishaw’s performance as the poet John Keats were highly praised out of the Cannes Film Festival. The film depicts the doomed three-year love affair between the two and is set to hit theaters on September 18 via Bob Berney and River Road’s Bill Pohlad soon-to-be-named new studio.
