Entertainment Weekly has managed to score the first look at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man 2 as the film and its stars make the mag’s July cover story in preparation for next week’s San Diego Comic Con.

Johansson enters the film as Stark’s mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries. “The men want it to be, like, ‘Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,’ but it’s not as standard as that,” Paltrow tells EW. “There’s a weird male catfight fantasy,” Downey agrees, saying what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: “We’re horny. Not, like, can’t-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny.”

You can check out the complete short article here and stay tuned as I am sure we will have a higher resolution image within the next week or so. In the meantime, what do you think of the look? Does it have you wondering what Emily Blunt would have looked like?

Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7, 2010.
