‘Thor’ Casting Rumors Include SkarsgÃ¥rd, Tatum and Hartnett

Earlier today LatinoReview posted a news piece saying Stellan Skarsgard’s son Alexander looks like he may be Thor director Kenneth Branagh’s first choice to play the title role. Word is Alex was seeing having dinner with Branagh and it was also confirmed the two share the same agency.

IESB.net is now coming to the table saying they too have heard similar rumblings but have also heard Channing Tatum’s name as part of the discussion even though Branagh appears to be leaning more towards Skarsgard.

Those unfamiliar with Skarsgard don’t worry too much, you aren’t that out of the loop as he is just starting to make a bigger splash on the scene following his work in “Generation Kill” in 2008 as well as playing top dog vampire Eric Northman in HBO’s “True Blood”.

The other news bit IESB delivers is a rumor Josh Hartnett is up for the role of the villain Loki, Thor’s adopted brother and principal foe. The report goes on to say “Josh and his camp are really interested because he has never played a villain before and after Heath Ledger’s Oscar win for the latest comic book villain, Hartnett is intrigued by the character.”

I have no idea what happens in the Thor comics so I can’t offer much more than what I have already given, but that’s the word around the campfire kiddies.

Thor is currently slated for a July 16, 2010 release by Paramount Pictures.
