Bello, Breslin and Jackson Set for ‘Rape: A Love Story’

I would say I like Samuel L. Jackson as much as the next person, but outside of his performance in Black Snake Moan I have a hard time separating most of his performances over the past ten years. Sure, Unbreakable is in there, but outside of that it seems once the ’90s ended Samuel L. Jackson just started phoning it in. No longer is it interesting to hear his name attached to a project as much as it just seems like yet another movie with Sam Jackson in it will be coming out. Today Variety tells us he has joined Maria Bello and Abigail Breslin in Rape: A Love Story based on the Joyce Carol Oates novella published in 2003. My reaction to this is… Okay, and I move on.

The story centers on a mother (Bello) recovering from a brutal gang rape who is stalked by the perpetrators but is protected by a sympathetic cop (Jackson). Breslin will play the woman’s 12-year-old daughter, who witnesses the attack. John Mankiewicz (“House”) penned the screenplay and Harold Becker (Sea of Love) will direct.

Does this interest you at all? Does Sam Jackson still instill hope of a good film in your mind?
