Sticking to my “don’t watch trailers” policy (closed my eyes and plugged my ears during the Angels and Demons trailer at the theater tonight) I have not watched this new trailer for the Denzel Washington and John Travolta remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, but I can tell you now I am not too interested in it because the original didn’t even thrill me all that much.
The original, released in 1974, starred Walter Matthau and everyone’s favorite shark hunter Robert Shaw and centered on the hijacking of a subway car and subsequent ransom demand. It was an okay film, but nowhere near the kind of film I am interested in seeing a remake of, especially if Travolta is going to bring his tough guy act to the table.
Directed by Tony Scott and written by Brian Helgeland the remake looks to take advantage of the same storyline with Travolta as the bad guy and Denzel out to stop him. Sony is releasing the film on June 12, you can watch the trailer below or right here in high definition.
