Is ‘Tomb Raider’ Going to See New Theatrical Life?

A couple of days ago some little blip of a rumor regarding Megan Fox as a potential successor to Angelina Jolie as the new Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise surfaced. Sorry, I don’t remember where it started, but rumors are something I don’t typically like to deal in all that much anymore and it seemed rather silly anyway.

However, The Hollywood Reporter is now saying there is new life in the franchise with Warner Bros. and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a reboot of the Lara Croft franchise, but the report does come without any mention of Fox.

Paramount released the first two films which starred Jolie as the titular daredevil archaeologist who punches sharks and wears revealing skin tight outfits all while kicking plenty of ass. Rights to the franchise reverted back to Eidos, the publisher of the videogame the films are based on, and when Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92% in Eidos in December, films rights to the property were included as part of the deal.

The new project is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.

There is no writer or director involved at the moment and until such movement happens only then is an actress expected to get involved.
