2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

5:55:18 PM: Oh, and one post here just so you know you are in the right place.

5:59:22 PM: I have it on good authority the Lifetime Achievement Award for James Earl Jones is coming up after Alan Rosenberg says his bit.

6:00:01 PM: James Earl Jones for Lifetime Achievement. It’s deserving, but this part of these shows is always so boring. Bet it won’t be once I get older though.

6:01:00 PM: This SAG president is still talking… shouldn’t his speech be saved for the commercial breaks?

6:01:37 PM: Forrest Whitaker is handing out the award to James Earl Jones… I am going to stop talking for a sec, so if you are with me, share a comment and let us know where you are from in the comments below if you have a sec.

6:07:09 PM: Commenters from Mumbai, Vancouver, Australia and the UK… gotta love the way the Internet brings folks together… Nice to have you here folks.

6:08:45 PM: Lifetime Achievement montage is still rolling… Jones roles such as Star Wars, Dr. Strangelove, Lion King and Field of Dreams are featured as well as a look at him on Sesame Street.

6:11:39 PM: Okay, now Jones is accepting the award. Hopefully we will get back on track soon.

6:12:02 PM: He’s quoting the Bible! This is getting deep.

6:12:35 PM: Honestly though, I think James Earl Jones could convince anyone to do anything with that voice.

6:13:05 PM: Okay, commercial time yet again and we should be moving along nicely after that.

6:18:27 PM: Hey, it’s Ernest Borgnine.

6:19:04 PM: We are awarding best actress for TV movie or mini-series… this is where “John Adams” takes over.

6:20:03 PM: My money is on Laura Linney for “John Adams”

6:21:22 PM: And the winner is…Laura Linney for “John Adams”

6:23:15 PM: Okay, site is going a bit slow, so bear with me as a lot of folks are joining us now.

6:23:38 PM: Viola Davis and Amy Adams announce Doubt as an ensemble film nominee

6:24:29 PM: Doubt is my pick for winner, I mean all four of the main actors are nominated… isn’t that a pretty good clue?

6:24:57 PM: Marisa Tomei arrives and she is gorgeous but that big ass bow looks weird.

6:25:27 PM: She’s awarding best actor in a TV movie or mini-series… let’s guess Giamatti for “John Adams”

6:26:07 PM: And the winner is… Paul Giamatti for “John Adams”

6:26:52 PM: Giamatti isn’t there, but I thought you may be interested to know The Dark Knight and “Heroes” won SAG awards for Stunts.

6:27:32 PM: Susan Sarandon is introducing the “In Memory Of” montage

6:31:50 PM: Went to commercial after the montage which ended with Paul Newman.

6:33:27 PM: Going to be honest here, this isn’t that great of a show.

6:34:25 PM: Oh, and if you end up watching and wonder why Heath Ledger wasn’t in the montage it’s because he was in it last year.

6:36:37 PM: We are coming back and will begin with Supporting Actor in a movie… Heath Ledger for that one anyone?

6:37:07 PM: Kristin Scott Thomas (the snubbed Oscar nominee) will announce the nominees and the winner.

6:38:27 PM: And the winner is… Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight

6:39:27 PM: Gary Oldman is accepting with a crazy screen capture of Heath as the Joker behind him.

6:40:37 PM: Taraji P. Henson and Brad Pitt are out to announce The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for best ensemble

6:42:13 PM: Damn, another commercial break.

6:48:15 PM: Ralph Fiennes is now here to present the award for Best Actress in a movie… My pick is Streep

6:49:09 PM: Damn, they keep destroying plot points in these clips

6:49:09 PM: Damn, they keep destroying plot points in these clips

6:50:13 PM: And the winner is… Meryl Streep for Doubt

6:52:04 PM: Meryl Streep is having some fun with this speech. It is her second SAG win. “Angels in America” was her first.

6:51 PM Happy I got that one right… She was great in Doubt and I now feel even better about it as an ensemble winner.

6:53 PM Meryl Streep is having some fun with this speech. It is her second SAG win. “Angels in America” was her first.

6:55 PM Now we have Katie Holmes coming out… Little bit of an odd choice as she announces Best Actor in a movie.

6:56 PM Sean Penn showed up so it gives me a bit of pause in my Mickey Rourke pick

6:57 PM And the winner is… Sean Penn for Milk

6:57 PM This is Penn’s first SAG win… Can we now predict winners if Penn just shows up?

6:59 PM Okay, the site has basically shut down from too much traffic so I am just doing this on the side and will add it at the end.

7:00 PM Anthony Hopkins has arrived to rush the Ensemble Feature Film winner. Milk vs. Doubt?

7:01 PM And the winner is… Slumdog Millionaire

7:02 PM Sorry, but that just doesn’t make sense to me, but since when have award shows made sense. On to the Oscars and the Slumdog route apparently.
