Box-Office Oracle: Dec. 12 – Dec. 14, 2008

#1 movie predicted correctly: 1 Week in a Row
This time last year the top twelve were pulling down $150m. However, that weekend had I am Legend and Alvin and the Chipmunks. As it stands I had a tough time getting this weekend up to $100m, but Keanu will be a big part of it.
Estimate: $55.2 million
Enjoy this lofty number, it’s about to get real ugly. Seven movies are within two million dollars of each other. Dartboard city.
Estimate: $11.3 million
Here’s an interesting fact: Eagle Eye is gaining 100 theaters this weekend. That’s how bad it is out there. Either that or there are 100 bargain theaters in America.
Estimate: $7.8 million
4. Bolt
Will the Golden Globe nomination help at all? No. Too far down the list.
Estimate: $4.8 million
5. Milk
Will the Golden Globe nomination (for Penn) and snub (of the film) help at all? Yes! Any publicity is good publicity for a film with 328 theaters.
Estimate: $4.6 million
Not worthy of our time. Let’s just move on.
Estimate: $4.0 million
Coming at ya from Freestyle Releasing. They don’t have much in the way of budget, so they’ll be hoping the newspaper ads and lack of competition garner them some free money.
Estimate: $3.9 million
The long, slow, coronation of Slumdog Millionaire has begun. Where does it stop? Probably just shy of winning an actual Best Picture Oscar.
Estimate: $3.8 million
Had to skip this one. I blame getting sick. But a healthy Oracle would have had a hard time donating two hours here too.
Estimate: $3.7 million
Oi is Jason Stafam!!! It doesn’t work as well for me, but FilmDrunk has it dialed in. Lucky bastard.
Estimate: $3.3 million
