Fox Searchlight just sent over the hi-res version of the brand new poster from their Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious starring Jamal Woolard as the late rapper. The film also stars multiple award winner Angela Bassett as Christopher’s mother Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean Combs and Anthony Mackie as Tupac Shakur and is directed by George Tillman Jr.
The trailer for the film looks pretty good if you ask me, but Searchlight’s decision to release it in January is a bit curious considering that is a timeframe either left for Oscar carryover or dumping ground films traditionally viewed by the studio as sub-standard. Considering Searchlight’s credibility and the fact this film has always eyed a January release I’m not putting much stock in the release date, after all they may perceive it as a really good film in fact, just not Oscar worthy, so they decided to avoid the award season rush, but wanted the film to be in theaters along with more prestigious films. I’m just brainstorming here, but the trailer for this film looks pretty good and the recently released clip over at USA Today shows Woodard definitely has the voice down, check that out here.
